First Friday is a go for Sept. 6

Greetings all.

Please plan to join us First Friday on the first Friday of September.  6:30, same bat cave. See you then.  I keep meaning to tell you all how much I appreciate you.  You keep writing in your life.  You read smartly.  You've been attending this group, many of you, for a decade or more.  The work being shared at First Friday has never been better than it is now.  Okay, we miss Calypso but she'll come back some day, I'm sure of it. We're sorry Mark got hurt in a bike wreck.  He'll be back full speed very soon, we're sure.  Tom's gonna join us with new work.  A big toast your way, FF.  I look forward to seeing you tomorrow evening.

First Friday, Same Time, Same Place, Aug. 9 ---- Yes!

Greetings all, and please spread the word.  We will meet for First Friday tomorrow, August 9, in Woolson House at 6:30 rain or shine.  You have the choice, if you want to share you work, to bring copies for about 15, or fewer and we can share, or if you don't have copies, we'll just listen and comment.  Remember however that your allotted block of time under normal circumstances (if there are more than 15 or so in the room)  is ten minutes, and if you read ten minutes, there won't be time to discuss the work in the group.  Sometimes that's okay -- you may not want discussion, may just want to hear your piece read aloud so you can get some perspective.  Sometimes we go beyond ten minutes (when attendance is down and we have the luxury of time per person).  First Friday is getting very good now -- you might have noticed, and so we will have to have a discussion one of these nights about publication, about self-publication, and about marketing the work which you'll have to do in either case.  It's always good to think about it from the other end, too.  If you want peeps to buy your book, you should be buy the books of others, too.  Every book by a friend we read improves our own writing.  See you tomorrow night.  -- Phil

First Friday will meet April 5, same time, same bat cave

Greetings all.  First Friday will meet this coming Friday in Woolson House.  We start at 6:30 and work ourselves to exhaustion.  Just kidding.  We start at 6:30 and have been known to go until 11, but usually it's a little after 10 when we break.  Of course, you can come and go whenever you want, though if you bring something to share with us it's polite to hang around a while and participate in discussions with some other people's work.  Safe to say attendance averages 12 to 15 people, though we have a total membership (I use the word loosely) of upwards of 40.  It is optional, but do consider bringing copies (15 is a safe number) because some people need to see the words on the page (writers, you know) while others prefer to hear the music of the words spoken by the author.  Anyway, see you soon.

This is to send out the word, First Friday will happen February First at Woolson House, 6:30 - 10:00 (roughly).  Bring twelve or copies of the stuff you wish to share, or it's okay if you don't and just want to read something to us.  It's local writers from all over the city, prose and poetry alike.  It's a community, gentle, and you're welcome.
